The Go-To Skincare Routine for Beginners

Did you know that collagen makes up 75% of the dry weight of your skin? As we age, however, its production will go down.

This will result in thinner, drier skin. If anything, that’s what leads to wrinkles and fine lines.

While there’s no way to prevent it per se, there are things that you can do to keep your skin looking healthy. For starters, you want to put together a basic skincare routine.

Need some help? Looking for an easy skincare routine for beginners? If so, you’re at the right place. Keep reading for everything that you need to know!

1. Cleanse

As a general rule, you want to wash your face twice a day—once in the morning and once at night. The former will help remove any sweat or oil that has accumulated on your skin overnight while the latter will help clear away impurities that have built up during the day.

The type of cleanser that you use is also important. Ideally, you want to choose something gentle that’s free of fragrance, parabens, and phthalates.

Start by wetting your face with lukewarm water. Using your fingertips, apply a small amount of cleanser to the skin using small, circular motions. Rinse your face afterward and carefully pat dry with a soft, clean towel.

2. Moisturize

Apply a moisturizer to your skin while it’s still slightly damp; that’ll help seal in the moisture. Not only will that prevent dryness, but it’ll also create a barrier between your skin and the environment.

For the best results, use a fragrance-free, oil-free moisturizer (e.g. anbiome.com offers some natural moisturizers); they’re suited for all skin types from oily to sensitive. Avoid those with mineral oil or propylene glycol as they can clog pores.

And make sure not to use too much product. That can leave your face feeling oily, which can contribute to breakouts, especially if you have acne-prone skin.

3. Apply Sunscreen

Wearing sunscreen will protect your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays; that’ll help prevent wrinkles, discoloration, as well as skin cancer.

There are two types to choose from: chemical sunscreens, which absorb UV rays, and mineral sunscreens, which block the rays from penetrating the skin.

For maximum protection, choose a sunscreen that’s SPF 30 or higher and wear it every day, even if it’s cloudy (UV rays can penetrate through clouds). And make sure to reapply every two hours, especially if you’ve been sweating or swimming.

A Quick Skincare Routine For Beginners

And there you have it—a skincare routine for beginners. As you can see, there are three main steps: cleansing, moisturizing, and applying sunscreen. Do that every day and it’ll keep your skin looking young and healthy.
