Everything We Know About Sex Education Season 2

Spoiler: There will be new relationships

Many are applauding Netflix’s hit series Sex Education, streaming now, for accurately and sensitively portraying sex, relationships, and identity. We’ve here praised it for showing that young women can—and should—demand good sex. The show, which focuses on a nerdy teen boy whose mother is a sex therapist, was so popular, in fact, that, according to Netflix, more than 40 million households watched it within the first four weeks.

So with that in mind, it’s not so surprising that Sex Education was just picked up for a second season—with eight new episodes—and will undoubtedly feature the same amount of ill-fated hookups and cringeworthy moments we’ve come to expect. “The reception to season one has been so exciting. Seeing how people across the world have connected to characters that began as ideas in my head is incredible,” series creator Laurie Nunn said in a statement. “I’m hugely grateful to every person that has taken the time to watch the series, and I can’t wait to continue this amazing journey.”

But how much do we really know about season two? Well, not much…yet. We have some information, though, that we hope leaves you, um, satisfied until the show returns. So read on to learn more about Sex Education season two—we’ll update this post as more details come in.

1. The release date. This hasn’t officially been announced yet, but the Sex Education crew will begin production on season two this spring. The first season premiered in January, so chances are that the show could return sometime during winter 2020.

2. The entire cast will return. You heard that right. Otis, Maeve, Eric, and the whole gang. But in the final episode of the first season we saw bad boy Adam get shipped off to boarding school (right after hooking up with Eric…). Now that we know the whole cast is returning, does that mean he’ll be back in the halls of Moordale Secondary School? Only time will tell.

3. There will be new relationships. Creator Laurie Nunn told Thrillist, “I love the idea of getting different characters together—if not together in a relationship, just together in the space. Like, I never thought those two characters would have a conversation, and there will be loads of opportunity for that.” But what does that mean for Maeve and Otis? The last we left them, Maeve was headed to Otis’ house to tell him she had feelings for him only to find him kissing Ola. While there haven’t been any official announcements on the fate of their relationship, it’s safe to say we’ll definitely be seeing more of them in season two.

Sex Education season one is streaming now on Netflix.
